We invite applications for one or more postdoctoral research scholars to pursue research in materials science, geochemistry, and high pressure science, with focus on using high temperature reaction calorimetry to measure thermochemical properties of materials and linking the thermodynamics to structural characteristics. Studied systems include molten chloride/fluoride salts and ceramics for nuclear energy applications, refractory ceramics inspired by natural processes, emerging functional and electronic materials, and geochemical and planetary materials. Emphasis is on synthesis, fundamental thermodynamic, structure, and chemical reactions. Working in Profs. Alexandra Navrotsky’s and Hongwu Xu’s research groups, the postdoc(s) will participate in highly interdisciplinary, multi-institutional, and collaborative projects.
The initial appointment is made on a fiscal year (12-month), full-time basis with subsequent annual renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of resources. This position is benefits-eligible.
Qualifications
• Ph.D. in chemistry, mineralogy/geochemistry, materials science, or related fields is required.
• Multidisciplinary background is preferred.
• Previous experience with thermodynamics, crystallography, and high pressure techniques is desirable.
