Post-doctoral fellowships in Mineral Physics / Materials Science

The ERC HotCores project at the Université de Lille, France,  is looking for two post-doctoral fellows, to start work in 2024. Both positions will be first available for 1 year and extendable for a second year, paid according to French standards for post-doctoral fellowships, including all associated social benefits. The first position will involve laboratory-based visco-elasticity measurements on metallic alloys using a new apparatus that was recently delivered to the lab. The second position will be dedicated to visco-elasticity measurements at high pressure and high temperature using a custom-built dynamic diamond anvil cell with heating capabilities. Details on the positions and application procedures are available at the following website and as a PDF file. Candidates should submit, in a single pdf file, a short statement of research experience and interests, a CV including a list of scientific productions, and the names and contact information of two or three potential referees

Université de Lille, France

A PhD position has opened at the Université de Lille, France. The work should start in the winter of 2024. The project will focus on the effect of pressure, temperature, iron content, and strain rate on the plastic deformation of ferro-periclase (Mg,Fe)O. It is funded by the ANR collaborative grant MIN-DIXI. It will involve deformation experiment in large volume presses at synchrotron sources, laser-driven compression at free electron lasers, and electron microscopy. More details are available in the following file (PDF): https://umet.univ-lille.fr/Uploads/get.php?id=201

Michigan State University – Multiple Positions Available

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks applications for two endowed tenure-track open rank positions: Earth Surface Processes and Global Change: Seeking candidates providing fundamental constraints on Earth’s environmental evolution via the geologic record—broadly defined to include rocks, ice, soils, and sediments on multiple timescales. This includes, but is not limited to, cryospheric, paleontological, oceanographic, geochemical, or climate evolution. Candidates will be expected to teach courses related to environmental processes and evolution from the geologic record.  Earth Materials and Resources: Seeking candidates studying earth materials, or earth processes related to geologic resources. Potential research areas include, but are not limited to, properties of earth materials, ores and critical minerals, or geology-based energy transition solutions. Candidates will be expected to teach courses related to earth materials, geologic processes, and natural resources. For both positions, preference will be given to candidates whose observationally grounded research

University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign

The Dlott laboratory at the University of Illinois (UIUC) needs talented postdoctoral researchers in experimental physical chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering. The Dlott group has pioneered new experimental methods that use a pulsed laser to launch small hypervelocity (0-6 km/s or 0-Mach 20) projectiles to study hypervelocity impacts with very high time and space resolution. The primary areas of interest are materials under extreme conditions (defined as pressures up to 50 GPa and temperatures up to 6000K), energetic materials and materials for hypersonic and space vehicles. More information about research opportunities in the Dlott group is available at https://dlottgroup.web.illinois.edu/, and the link “Jobs” at the top of the page. Links are also provided to recent research publications. Read the flyer
