The Advanced Photon Source (APS) General User Proposal (GUP) call for the 2025-3 cycle will open on May 19 with a deadline of June 25, 2025, at 2PM Chicago time. We just wanted to provide users a brief update about the status of our SEES-funded beamlines at APS with regard to supporting experiments in the 2025-3 cycle. All SEES beamlines at the APS (3-ID, 6-BM, and all Sector 13 beamlines) will participate in the 2025-3 GUP call, although some beamlines remain in scientific commissioning and thus won’t support a full user program for the cycle.
These beamlines will have returned to supporting a full General User Program for 2025-3:
- 13-BM-C Diamond Anvil Cell, Surface/Interface Science and In-Situ Powder Diffraction programs
- 13-BM-D Computed Microtomography, Diamond Anvil Cell, and Large Volume Press programs
- 13-ID-E X-ray Microprobe Program
- 3-ID Nuclear Resonant Scattering Program
- 6-BM-B Multi-Anvil Press program
Beamlines 13-ID-C/D (Diamond Anvil Cell, Large Volume Press, and Surface/Interface Science Programs) will continue to operate in Scientific Commissioning mode for 2025-3. We intend to support some user experiments here while also commissioning. Potential external users for 13-ID-C/D must have an active APS proposal, so interested researchers are encouraged to submit a beamtime request for the 2025-3 General User Call. Whether beamtime will be allocated for a particular proposal in 2025-3 will depend on the readiness of the instruments and optics required, in addition to the numerical score.
More details about the beamline commissioning process, return to user experiments, and status of individual SEES beamlines at the APS can be found at https://seescience.org/beamlines-and-facilities/aps/upgrade-status/. Although some beamlines have returned to full user operations, we strongly encourage you to contact the beamline scientists to discuss the feasibility of your proposed research, inquire about the detailed status and availability of individual techniques, and potential changes because of the upgrade. We will endeavor to keep the upgrade-status webpage updated as the status of our beamlines changes
